Cienfuegos | A Los Mártires
Label: Unknown Precept – PRECEPT 006
Format: Vinyl, 12", 33 ⅓ RPM, EP
Released| 13 Nov 2015
Blank-eyed but hot-blooded fusion of Cuban rhythms and industrial noise from Brooklyn-via-Miami's Alexander Suàrez for "grotesk techno" label Unknown Precepts.
His vinyl debut, 'A Los Mártrires' is intended as an ode to "those who have spilled their blood for political ideologies that failed them and countries that were never their homes", and, like Silent Servant or Esplendor Geométrico before him, instinctly provides a latinate rhythmic solution to the knotted dead ends industrial dance music often finds itself in.
In five tracks he balances caustic texture and atmospheric pressure with shifty percussive sleights and skeletal structures making a refreshing change from so much entrenched trudge. They're at best in the almost Native American-inflected hypnosis of 'Resolution' and the eviscerated, bare bone shimmy of the title track on the A-side, and the B-side hits heavy with the decayed techno chicanery of 'Faceless'.
Edition of 300 copies pressed on 140 grams vinyl housed in black inner-sleeve.
